The area that the city now sits on was part of the land that tribes such as the Shawnee, Gawanese and Susquehannock used to live on and around. The area was settled by Europeans in 1720 as Steitztown because many of the settlers had the last name Steitz. It remained Steitztown until 1885 when the name was officially changed to Lebanon, and it was incorporated as a city.

Today, there are just over 25,000 people living in this city. It is currently the 17th largest city in the state by population.

One of the most notable is Coleman Memorial Park. Stoever's Dam Park is another popular option for kids thanks to the fishing, nature barn camping and wildlife viewing opportunities. Just 35 minutes away, you will find Hershey Park, a large amusement park that both kids and adults will love.

If outdoor activities are your style, you will find that there are many options. To the north and south, there are large areas of land that the state has set aside for hunting and trapping. If you like hunting, camping and skiing, the Poconos are about an hour to the northeast. You will also find that the city rents out garden plots for those who may live in a neighborhood apartment or need more space to work out in the dirt.

History buffs will also get a lot out of living here thanks to the area's past. Many of the historic sites in the area are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Some of the most popular include the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Chestnut Street Log House and the Josiah Funck Mansion.

Getting around the city is easy by car, but if you are looking for other options, the town is served by Lebanon Transit six days a week. There are fixed route, express and paratransit options.
