Originally settled by Welsh immigrants in the 17th century, Malvern was first known as West Chester Intersection. It was incorporated in 1889. The borough of Malvern is only 1.3 square miles in size, but the community has seen its share of growth in recent years. The 2010 census placed the local population at 2,998 residents, but town estimates are closer to 3,200 now following revitalization of residential and commercial areas with the help of Chester County funding. There are three public parks that host community events and family activities and have a variety of sports fields.

Families with school-age children are part of the Great Valley School District, where youngsters attend area schools with children from several communities. The Malvern Business and Professional Association sponsors and annual tree lighting and Victorian Christmas celebration, a spring family festival, a week-long Grand Prix bicycling event, a fall harvest festival and an annual fashion show and luncheon to benefit the Paoli Hospital Cancer Center Wellness Day.
