Just a short drive from Philadelphia, the Borough of Malvern in Chester County offers the benefits of small town living near a large metropolitan area. College opportunities in the area include a small co-ed college, Immaculata University, outside Malvern and many colleges and universities in Philadelphia.
Malvern is headquarters for Vishay Intertechnology, one of the world's largest manufacturers of semiconductors and electronic components with more than 26,000 employees worldwide. Among the local shops and business services are many family-owned companies, several banks and financial services firms and a local music school, Beam's Music.

The community has railway and bus service to West Chester, the county seat, and area shopping districts that include the sprawling King of Prussia Mall. Locally, residents enjoy restaurants that range from elegant country inn bistros to casual family dining. The People's Light and Theatre Company is a local repertory theater that offers a full season of classic and contemporary plays and musicals. For additional nightlife, concerts and a lively restaurant scene, Philadelphia is only 25 miles west of Malvern.
Community activities are sponsored by the borough's recreation department, local parents groups such as the MOMS Club (Moms Offering Moms Support) and the Malvern Public Library, which was expanded in 2003 to include a reading room and children's porch. The library collection includes 39,000 print and electronic items.
The Malvern Business and Professional Association sponsors and annual tree lighting and Victorian Christmas celebration, a spring family festival, a week-long Grand Prix bicycling event, a fall harvest festival and an annual fashion show and luncheon to benefit the Paoli Hospital Cancer Center Wellness Day.
