Overview of Center City East, Philadelphia

If you choose to rent a Center City East apartment, you’ll find yourself in good company. This part of Philadelphia is the city’s most densely populated district. It’s also busy with colorful, active neighborhoods—some so small you could practically trip over them. Living in this part of town may be a bit crowded, but that’s old school city living for you. In exchange for the reduced elbowroom, you’ll live amidst world-class culture and seriously impressive Americana. Seems like a fair trade!

Center City East is the historic heart of Philly, where William Penn and the Quakers first settled. If you want to relive the American Revolution, join the tourists visiting Independence National Historical Park. That’s only part of this district’s attraction. Elfreth’s Alley is one of the oldest continuously inhabited streets in the United States. You can tip your hat to the Liberty Bell and raise a flag to Betsy Ross’s house, all from a Center City East apartment.

Center City East, Philadelphia Lifestyle and Entertainment

You won’t want for much if you choose to live in Center City East. There’s plentiful shopping in Market East, one of the city’s retail hubs. Bars and restaurants are also in generous supply. You can take your pick between the bakeries and bubble tea of Chinatown, the cafes and cocktail lounges in the neighborhood, or the more traditional fare around Washington Square.

Entertainment in Center City East is also top notch. Here you’ll find the Philadelphia Orchestra playing in the Kimmel Center, which also hosts drama and dance events. There are smaller theaters in Center City East, too, casual nightclubs, and even a miniature golf course. For some greenery, try Franklin Square or Washington Square.

Center City East, Philadelphia Rental Market Info

Center City East is a good place to spot Philadelphia’s native architectural style, known as the “trinity.” These residences have only one room per floor, each connected by a spiral staircase. Naturally, most rentals will offer you something with a few more walls! You can find apartments, lofts, and other kinds of housing in Center City East.

This district is mixed in terms of residents. You’ll find significantly different crowds as you move between the individual neighborhoods. For a two-bedroom Center City East apartment, expect to pay around $1,900 a month. Because this district is pretty much the middle of the city, you’ll have excellent access to public transportation options from your home here.
