Overview of Fairmount Park

When Philadelphians mention Fairmount Park, most often they mean either Philly’s vast system of neighborhood parks or the large park of the same name that anchors the system. Fairmount Park, however, also refers to the neighborhood that surrounds the titular green space. Further confusing matters, there’s the Fairmount neighborhood east of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which overlaps some with the Fairmount Park neighborhood. Don’t worry too much about boundaries, however. Any way you slice it, a Fairmount Park apartment means living near the fresh air and reasonably close to Center City.

Fairmount Park, split into East and West by the Schuylkill River, came into being in the mid-19th century. There are a few houses inside the boundaries of the park itself, but you’re not going to rent those. Along the edges of the quiet green space, you’ll have more luck. These rentals may also be referred to as being part of neighborhoods such as North Philadelphia, Belmont, or Wynnefield.

Fairmount Park Lifestyle and Entertainment

The biggest perk of living in Fairmount Park is, of course, the park. Beyond the extensive trails and fields inside, you’ll also have the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Zoo, the popular Please Touch Museum, and other attractions to keep you entertained. For dining out, you’ll find an assortment of casual to upper end places scattered about, depending on which side of the park you live on. You’ve got grocery stores on both side of the river plus other required services and shops close at hand.

Fairmount Park residents don’t particularly adhere to a type, but you will find more students down towards the University of Pennsylvania and Saint Joseph’s College.
