He set the neighborhood’s tone at that time and it’s held fast since then.

If you’re looking for shopping, Walnut Street, starting at Rittenhouse Square and running east to Broad Street, should fit the bill. Along this stretch you’ll find upscale stores selling everything from jewelry to computers. Check out local boutiques as well. Food is also a treat in the neighborhood. You’ll find some of the best eats in Philly around the square, from French bistros to steakhouses to casual pizza places. You can hit Los Catrines & Tequilas Restaurant for a shot of mescal or enjoy artisanal gelato at Caporgiro. Rittenhouse Square itself is Philadelphia’s version of Central Park. Even though the neighborhood is pricey, the park welcomes all sorts.
