Red Lion saw its beginnings in manufacturing, as many of the city's first residents settled here for work at the successful Ebert Furniture Company, one of Pennsylvania's first in a long line of factories. After the Meyer family planted their 55-acre farm in the community, this important family began to build up Red Lion by installing many valuable businesses and amenities in the community, including a post office, general store, railroad station, saloon and hotel. Today, Red Lion is home to more than 6,300 residents, according to the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau. The city still holds onto its roots in the manufacturing sector, with industries in textiles, milling, plastics and steel production, according to the city's website.
Red Lion Attractions and Special Events
One of the city's best attractions is its historical railroad station that harkens back to the origins of this quaint Pennsylvania town. Originally part of the Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad, the station still has an original telegraph station, ticket window and express freight room. Residents can also access this historical marker on the city's hiking and biking trail.
