The Ames Manufacturing Co., also known as the Ames Sword Co., produced Civil War swords and cannons. In 1853, it began doing bronze casting. The statue of Ben Franklin in front of Boston City Hall was the first cast at Ames. Others of note are the Minuteman Statue in Concord and the capital doors in Washington, DC.
