One of the most striking features of the city are its skyways, enclosed pedestrian walkways that connect virtually all of downtown and keep pedestrians comfortable and dry no matter what the weather.

In Minneapolis, the overall cost of living is 12% below the national average. Average apartments for rent cost approximately $800 a month, with average 2-bedroom apartments going for $1,000. The overall cost of living in St. Paul is 9% lower than the national average. While this is not as favorable as Minneapolis, the price of apartment rentals is somewhat cheaper. Average one-bedroom apartments go for about $650, two-bedroom apartment rentals cost around $800 and three-bedroom apartments for rent average $1,000 per month.
Neighborhoods to Explore
With 101 neighborhoods in Minneapolis and 127 in St. Paul, there are a lot of areas to choose from when looking for apartment rentals. In Minneapolis, you'll find the nicest housing options in the affluent Southwest and Calhoun/Isles neighborhoods. More affordable apartments can be found in the Near North, Phillips/Whittier, Powderhorn and Camden areas. In St. Paul, higher income neighborhoods include Summit Hill, Highland Park, Macalester-Groveland and Merriam Park. For lower-priced areas, try Thomas-Dale, Summit-University and the North End.
