Milwaukee, WI 53204
"The Knitting Factory captures Milwaukee's industrial roots. The property is nestled next to Mitchell Park and the Mitchell Park Horticulture Domes. We are just minutes away from Miller Park, downtown Milwaukee and Lake Michigan. Residents in our 100 loft style apartments can enjoy our 12-seat movie theater, entertain guests in our resident lounge and tone up in our fully equipped fitness center.
The Knitting Factory buildings at 2100 West Pierce Street are historically signifianct for the innovative work done in the buildings from 1937 to 1951 by Goodwill executives Oliver Friedman and son Robert Friedman, and the employees of Goodwill in creating comprehensive programs and policies to serve people with disabilities. First built in 1912, the VanDyke Knitting Company buildings are notable as one of only a few remaining knitting facilities in Milwaukee, largely intact from the early twentieth century.
