Collierville, TN
Overview of Collierville
With its historic downtown and vibrant business ethic, the bedroom community of Collierville is one of the most charming in Tennessee. Although this city is home to some of the titans of industry like Pepsi and Carrier, Collierville apartments for rent still have that small-town feel that makes the city so special. According to information from the U.S. Census Bureau, the 2010 population was nearly 44,000, making Collierville an excellent tight-knit community with the amenities of Memphis only a short drive away.
Living in Collierville, TN
Incorporated in 1850, Collierville was named after Jesse R. Collier, an entrepreneur that bought the land and laid out the tracts into lots, advertising the area as the "Town of Collier." The city took a blow during the Civil War but quickly bounced back in the 1900s, becoming one of the major trade centers for cotton. Today, this dynamic city is full of successful businesses, but still keeps its focus on preserving the past with places like Confederate Park, a monument in the business district. With its high quality of life and low cost of living, it is no surprise that so many people are calling Collierville home.
Collierville Attractions and Special Events
One of the city's favorite annual events is Fair on the Square, a gathering of crafts, food and games every spring in the historic downtown district. All of the proceeds are used to support education, community life and environmental projects, and local art, showing the city's philanthropic side.
Collierville is also home to 11 regional and neighborhood parks. With more than 60 miles of trails connecting schools and commercial districts, residents have easy access to biking, running or a simple stroll in the great outdoors. One of the city's favorite spots is H.W. Cox Jr. Park, home to the Harrell Performing Arts Theater, the Collierville Antique Show and the annual Independence Day Celebration.
