Living in Germantown, TN
The first European settlement was established in Germantown between 1825 and 1830 by Miss Francis Wright, who established the Nashoba Plantation, a utopian community that was intentionally built to emancipate slaves. The community took a hard hit after the Civil War, but rebounded back after the turn of the 20th century. Today, Germantown remains one of Tennessee's fastest-growing communities. During the last half of the 1900s, the city's size grew tenfold, and it is home to nearly 39,000 residents, according to data from the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau. Because of the prosperous residential environment and great school system, there is no doubt that Germantown will continue to prosper and thrive.
Germantown Attractions and Special Events
One of the city's attractions that many residents like to visit is the Germantown Performing Arts Center. Part of the community for more than 18 years, this 824-seat venue presents world-class artists in classical music, dance, jazz, comedy sets and musical theater. Over the past five seasons, programming has tripled, showing Germantown's appreciation and love for the arts.
Germantown is also located near Shelby Farms Park, a 4,500-acre green space with 6.5 miles of peaceful trails. Completely funded by citizens without any tax dollars, this nonprofit park is truly a community treasure that the city citizen's are proud to fully invest in.
