Overview of Mount Juliet

Mount Juliet is a suburb of Nashville, and is approximately 17 miles east of downtown Nashville, world-famous for being a “Music City.” It is situated in western Wilson County. The official slogan of the city is “The City between the Lakes,” which aptly reflects its close proximity to Old Hickory Lake and Percy Priest Lake, which are both man-made bodies of water. The city prides itself as being the gateway to the Appalachian Mountain Range and the Atlantic seaboard.

Living in Mount Juliet

Formed in 1835 and officially incorporated in 1972, it is possible that the name Mount Juliet was derived from the Mount Juliet Estate, which was a prominent manor house in Ireland. Another theory is that the name was derived after a well-known citizen, Julia Gleaves, who was a caretaker to many citizens in the community.

Mount Juliet has one of the lowest tax rates in the state, and one of country’s newest commuter rail lines. The town is home to one of the largest shopping complexes, located between Knoxville and Nashville, that features hundreds of shops and restaurants. It is also one of the state’s fastest-growing communities with an estimated population of nearly 29,000. If you want to experience Southern charm at its finest, this might just be the city for you to rent in.

Sports enthusiasts enjoy visiting the Nashville Superspeedway, which hosts NASCAR Busch Series, Craftsman Truck Series and the Indy Racing League. Nature lovers enjoy choosing from three nearby state parks, including Long Hunter State Park, Bicentennial Mall State Park and Cedars of Lebanon State Park. The city boasts three of its own public parks, making it ideal to take a stroll and enjoy the beauty of Tennessee. For the food fanatic, the local farmer’s market opens every May and operates rain or shine. Hundreds of visitors take their pick from produce that came from one of the local neighborhoods.
