Each of these communities-Barton Hills, Bouldin Creek, Travis Heights, and Zilker-has its own personality. Taken together, they're a group of safe and green neighborhoods well known for putting a little extra effort into staying eccentric.
This part of town is where you'll find both the Austin City Limits Festival and the trendy cafés of South Congress Avenue. South Austin is full of mature trees, abundant parkland, and family-friendly fun, too. Some houses here date back to the early 20th century, but you're more likely to find places built in the 1920s, '30s, or '40s.

The Barton Creek Greenbelt and Zilker Park are both found in South Austin. For a few dollars you can swim in Barton Springs Pool, which is fed by a natural spring. Zilker Park plays host to the Austin City Limits Music Festival and other popular annual events.
