Living in Deep Ellum Dallas
Everything you think you know about Dallas, throw that out the window. Deep Ellum Dallas is one of those places people tell you about and their first words are, “It’s nothing like the rest of Texas…”
And it’s not.
Diverse, urban, and covered in graffiti, this alternative neighborhood was founded on a culture of creativity. Today, Deep Ellum is an eclectic mix of professionals and artists, young and old; yet all share the common goal of making their community the best it can be. Deep Ellum lofts and apartments are perfect for those seeking a walkable neighborhood, urban amenities, and a tight-knit community that is constantly working to improve their surroundings.
Culture and Art in Deep Ellum Dallas
The 177 acres that make up Deep Ellum Dallas are filled to the brim with art galleries, live music venues, theaters, and opera houses. In the 1920’s, this area was the go-to place in Dallas for up-and-coming musicians, and the neighborhood has strived over the years to maintain that electric, artsy vibe.
Deep Ellum Dallas places a strong emphasis on public art. Whether it’s a graffiti mural or just a fun performance on a street corner, there’s a community-wide consensus that creativity is always something that should be celebrated.
One of the most well-known events in the neighborhood is the Deep Ellum Arts Festival that features hundreds of decorative and visual artists, original bands, and singer/songwriters. People from all around come to watch and buy art pieces from sculptors, muralists, jewelers, painters, and more (hint: it’s a great way to decorate your apartment in Deep Ellum with local art!).
Deep Ellum Food and Nightlife
Apartments in Deep Ellum are within walking distance of some of the best food and nightlife that Dallas has to offer. From the no-nonsense burgers at Angry Dog to the Maine lobster cakes at Local, this area is home to tremendously tasty, independently owned restaurants that are as diverse and unique as the neighborhood itself.
And, of course, the music scene here is still booming. Many bands of all genres had their “big break” playing in the Deep Ellum venues, and the area still draws talent locally and from all around the country. It’s one of the few places in Texas where you can walk down the street and find honky tonk, jazz, metal, and rock-n-roll all within blocks of each other.

There’s also a Veterinary Hospital just a short distance to the east in Exposition Park.
For some outdoor fun, there is an off-leash dog park called the Bark Park. In the spring, you and your pooch and join the Pet Parade, a fun neighborhood event where hundreds of pet owners strut their stuff down Main Street.
Most Deep Ellum lofts accept both cats and dogs, which makes finding a home and keeping your pet happy easy in this pet-friendly neighborhood.
Commuting From Deep Ellum Dallas
Dallas is a city that loves its cars. And unfortunately that may partially be because the public transit system is still sub-par. The train is very limited in where it can take you, and often takes longer than driving. Deep Ellum does have two DART stations though, so you’ll have the option of taking the train if it ends up being convenient for you to do so.
The great news is that Deep Ellum has access to both IH 75 and 30, so commuting by car is very easy. Plus if you can carpool and get access to the HOV lane then getting Downtown quickly will be a breeze! Most Deep Ellum lofts and apartments offer parking that is secure so you and your car will both feel at home.
