Renting an apartment in Far North Dallas, TX, puts you in a part of the city unlike any other. In the 1950's this area was nothing more than cotton fields, which is why the area is known as the "Cotton Belt." Today the community is considered to include the neighborhoods north of the LBJ Freeway, and surrounded by Richardson on the east, Carrollton on the West and Plano on the northwest. Portions are in the city of Dallas, as well as two other counties. Four school districts, with a reputation for quality schools, educate students in this Far North Dallas suburb.

The communities of Far North Dallas offer a great combination of city living with a quieter suburban feel. The area is bustling with shopping, restaurants and options for nightlife. Many area bars feature live music and dancing. For outdoor fun, the Preston Ridge Trail is a welcome treasure for walkers, runners, cyclists and skaters. The initial five mile portion opened in 2003, and now the 1.3 miles second phase has extended it north to the Bush Tollway.

For family fun, you can get a taste for Texas' roots at the North Texas State Fair and Rodeo in nearby Denton. The August event features a parade, carnival, rides, livestock show and, of course, a rodeo. For something different, visit the famous Southfork Ranch from in the Dallas TV show in nearby Parker. In addition to the Mansion and Ranch, the facility hosts special events and private parties in its 10 ballrooms and other facilities.

The Far North Dallas rental market includes many neighborhoods. Rental costs vary according the amenities offered, as well as the distance from the city center. Typically, one bedroom apartments can be found starting at around $600 per month. Two bedroom units begin at $850 with more options at the $1250 price point. Mid-rise apartments are the most common, but smaller complexes and high rises are available as well.

Or, you can select from townhomes, condos and single family homes. Most residents in Far North Dallas rely on the local highway system to commute to downtown, although Dallas Area Rapid Transit operates bus lines to the area. Plans for the Far North portion of the DART light rail line are being finalized.

Most of Far North Dallas is within the city's limits. Three branches of the Dallas Public Library serve the area: Fretz Park, Renner Frankford and Timberglen.
