This area of the city developed over the second half of the last century. North Dallas in general refers to the suburbs north of the city center. But it can be further divided into the North West and Far North suburbs as well as smaller neighborhoods, each with its own character. North Dallas encompasses some of the wealthiest parts of the city.
North Dallas Lifestyle and Entertainment
North Dallas is known for its high end shopping. You can choose from three shopping meccas. NorthPark Center boasts 235 stores and restaurants, including Neiman-Marcus, Dillard's and Nordstrom. If you get tired of browsing at Galleria Dallas's 200 stores, you can take a spin on the mall's skating rink. Or do your shopping with a side of history at Highland Park Village, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. There you can shop the exclusive luxury stores of Carolina Herrera, Chanel, Harry Winston and Stella McCartney. After all that retail therapy, you can unwind and recharge at the area's chic restaurants and trendy bars.
The North Dallas Rental Market
North Dallas includes a wide array of communities north of the city. Apartment rental prices reflect this range of choices as well. For instance, if you want to live close to the NorthPark Mall, you can find a studio for about $650 a month, or a two-bedroom for $850-$1150 a month. A little further north of Downtown Dallas, you can expect lower prices. One bedroom apartments start at about $400 a month and two bedrooms cost about $800. Your selection is largest among apartment rentals, but you can also choose from condos, townhomes and single family homes.
Dallas has one of the largest concentrations of corporate headquarters in the country. They are spread throughout the metroplex. You may be able to work near home. If not, Dallas has an extensive freeway system and there are light rail lines that flank both the east and west sides of North Dallas to Downtown.
