The neighborhood is part of the "Cotton Belt," an area that until the 1950s was planted in cotton. Many of the apartments and other housing in the area were built during a construction boom in the 1980s. Part of Far North Dallas, the Timberglen neighborhood is roughly defined as south of the President George Bush Turnpike to about Briargrove Lane, and west of the Dallas Tollway.
Timberglen Lifestyle and Entertainment
Timberglen offers a quieter residential lifestyle. Yet, restaurants, shopping and other attractions are just freeway ride away. Just down the Dallas Tollway is the bustling community of Addison, with a wide range of nightlife, restaurant and shopping options. Nearby Carrollton offers golfing, an amusement park, lakes and recreation centers. The Timberglen Recreation Center has trails, a kids summer camp and organized baseball, basketball and soccer for both kids and adults.
For a glimpse into the history of the area, you can visit the A. W. Perry Homestead Museum. The Perry family were pioneer homesteaders in 1844 from Carrrollton, Ill., brought not only their family, but gave their new town its name. Their original farmhouse was replaced by their son in 1909, which serves as the museum today.
