After the construction of Chicago, Texas, and the Mexican Central Railroad, about forty years later, Duncanville’s development began to prosper. The railroad that connected Duncanville to Dallas and Cleburne was set to complete by April 1881, but a shortened method of construction enabled the railroad to arrive in Cleburne two hours ahead of the deadline. Made possible by the open field owned by James R. Horne and G.H. Finley, the switching station that was built was dubbed the Duncan Switch.

Within the same year, Charles Nance arrived into the city at the Duncan Switch and quickly realized the potential of the area. Nance petitioned to have a post office in the area, as residents at the time were required to travel to nearby towns to receive mail. Once he was asked to give the area a name, Nance called it Duncan and soon added the “ville.”

Duncanville today is a quaint town ideal for raising a family, beginning a career or retiring.

In the Dallas metro area, there are various industries that residents find careers in. The major employers in the area include Southwest Dallas County include Methodist Charlton Medical Center, Masco, JCPenney Support Center and Brass Craft Western. Since Duncanville is conveniently located near the DFW International Airport and local highways, it makes doing business and getting to work easy. The 6,000 acre master-planned industrial park, Dallas Logistics Hub “inland port,” is near four major highways, dual rail and intermodal facilities.

Sports mean a lot to the residents of Duncanville, and it is obvious in the town’s annual Great American Shoot-Out Events. These events include the Summer Tip-Off IAD Complex, Duncanville Great American Shoot-Out, Bryan/College Station Shoot-Out and Pearland Shoot-Out, which are all within the same region. Duncanville also has an annual car show that residents and visitors alike can enjoy.

Residents of Duncanville are also just minutes away from the Dallas Cowboy’s Stadium that features a 60-yard jumbo screen big enough to see for miles.
