Overview of Ennis

Head 30 miles south of Dallas on Highway 45 and you will run into the charming Texas town of Ennis. With a history of the Wild West and railroading among fields of beautiful bluebonnets, this vibrant community has access to everything that the Dallas/Fort Worth Metropolitan Area has to offer in a tight-knit community of around 18,000 residents, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. With its high quality of life, low crime and spirit of Texas tradition, it should come as no surprise that many Dallas area residents are giving Ennis apartments for rent a second look.

Living in Ennis, TX

The original plots of land in Ennis cost around $5 an acre in its beginnings in 1871. After the Houston and Texas Central Railroad purchased nearly 650 acres near Ennis, they began establishing the line's northern terminus and a small community began to form. The town was named after Cornelius Ennis, an early resident and director of the railroad's construction. The city's location near the railroad was key in Ennis's development as a commercial and industrial center as it entered the 20th century. Due to a very lucrative cotton manufacturing hub, Ennis was eventually dubbed as the place "Where Railroads and Cotton Fields Meet" by 1930. Today, Ennis has shifted its focus from manufacturing and shipping to modern industry and commerce, and looks forward to a dynamic and exciting future.

Ennis Attractions and Special Events

Ennis is known as "The Bluebonnet City" for a reason. The Texas state flower is very prevalent in the fields around Ennis, prompting many visitors for wildflower viewing during the spring. Every April, the city hosts the Bluebonnet Trails Festival for tourists and residents alike to learn about the colorful and indigenous Texas bloom.

Because of the city's large Czech background, Ennis is also home to the Annual National Polka Festival every May. Complete with a parade, street dancing, delicious Czech cuisine and plenty of polka music, this festival is a great way to learn about the city's background and get to know your new neighbors.
