Flower Mound is centrally located near Dallas in north Texas. The family-oriented community prides itself on a small town atmosphere with plenty of amenities to suit the needs of a modern family. The community is named after The Mound, which stands 650 feet above sea level and 50 feet above the surrounding countryside.
Located in Denton County, Flower Mound spans 20,000 acres along the shore of Grapevine Lake. The residential, suburban community takes pride in its diverse dining options, abundant recreation and high quality education system.

The first settlers who came to Flower Mound were attracted by the high quality of soil and the opportunities for prosperous farms. These individuals took advantage by raising cotton, corn and wheat. The area was considered part of the great American Black Land Prairie that spanned from Canada to Rio Grande and from the Rockies to Mississippi. Today, only 1,000 acres of the original 20 million remain.
The Peters Colony named the town after a large mound covered with Indian paintbrush, which originally consisted of three small communities established in 1853. Flower Mound was fortunate enough to have survived the Great Depression without suffering greatly. The steady population lasted throughout the first four decades of the 20th century, allowing the region to become a substantial farming and cattle-raising community.
In 1961, town leaders prompted the incorporation of Flower Mound, and seven days later the goal was achieved. The vote was 105-1, and, soon after, the Denton County Commissioners Court approved the incorporation.
