The area first blossomed in the late 1970s and early 80s after the Greenspoint Mall opened in 1976. Friendswood Development, a land development company that was owned by Exxon Corp at the time, began constructing midrise office buildings on about 200 acres in the neighborhood. After a number of years of decline following the crash of Houston's economy in the 1980s, an investment firm bought buildings with more than 5,000 apartments. The company began a systematic revitalization of the entire community by upgrading and renovating dozens of apartment complexes. Then in 1991, the Greater Greenspoint Management District was created to provide enhanced services and improvements to community. Today, the area includes a large business district. The management district has opened new parks, attracted new businesses and done much to boost life in Greenspoint.

The Greater Greenspoint Management District added three parks to the community. The Thomas R. Wusson Park has baseball and soccer fields, volleyball sand courts, hiking and biking trails, a playground, a spray ground and a public pavilion. The small City View Park provides a green space with benches, a garden, a pavilion, and tables. The newest is Ida Gaye Gardens, designed specifically for older adults as a place to socialize, exercise and relax./p>
