Park Ten, Houston, TX

Living in the Park Ten, Houston TX

Rent an apartment in Park Ten, Houston TX, and you'll be a part of the city's "Energy Corridor." A major portion of the Energy Corridor runs through Park Ten. The name refers to the many companies based there that specialize in oil and gas exploration and engineering. Many non-energy companies call this portion of West Houston, about 19 miles west of downtown, home.

Park Ten got its start as a railroad stop for what was then the Bear Creek community. It was originally named after its first postmaster, Henry Addicks in 1884. The original town site was just south of the intersection of Patterson Road and Highway 6. Even today, the area is often called Addicks/Park Ten. The southern border of this community today is marked by the Katy Freeway (I-10, US Hwy 90). Park Ten is adjacent to Memorial Park, which is just south of I-10.

Park Ten Lifestyle and Entertainment

The Energy Corridor that runs through Park Ten is filled with eateries and cafes. For nightlife, the area around West Houston Airport hosts a number of clubs and sports bars. And what would a Houston neighborhood be without shopping. You have your choice of shopping destinations, including the West Oaks Mall, Memorial City Mall, Katy Mills Mall, of course, The Galleria Houston. For something a little different, spend an afternoon at Forbidden Gardens Miniature City in nearby Katy. This outdoor museum of Chinese culture and history features a scale model of China's Forbidden City.

Addicks/Park Ten boasts spectacular outdoor spaces for recreational endeavors. Addicks Reservoir, north of I-10, and Barker Reservoir, south of it, together include 26,000 acres created as a flood zone to prevent downstream flooding in Houston. Completed in the 1940s, today both the City of Houston and Harris County operate large parks on that acreage. These green belts offer peace and quiet from hectic city life.

Harris County's Bear Creek Pioneers Park is more than 2,000 acres. Facilities include: baseball, softball, basketball and soccer fields; an equestrian trail, a Wildlife Habitat and Aviary; walking and hiking trails, picnic areas, playground, and tennis courts. The in-park Bear creek Golf World has three 18-hole courses, and is considered to be the premier public golf facility in West Harris County. The Houston Farm and Ranch Club, a covered rodeo arena used by 4H Clubs and FFA and FHA clubs, local scout troops, and the Harris County Fair, also is in the park. The City of Houston's Cullen Park in the reservoir also has ball fields, picnic areas, bike trail and walking, as well as a water playground.
