Living in the Southside, Houston TX
Rent an apartment in Southside Place, a Houston, TX suburb, for a taste of small-town life within the confines of a large metro area. Although associated with Houston, Southside Place is actually a city in its own right. It got its start when developer Edloe Crain built a park with a pool close to today's Bellaire Boulevard. His opening on Easter Sunday in 1925 was designed to attract potential home buyers to the new town site, and it worked. With 600 or so residents, Southside Place incorporated in 1931, and in 1934 became a city. As Houston annexed surrounding communities, Southside Place maintained its independence. Interestingly, even though it is a city, the U.S. Postal Service uses "Houston" for all addresses in the city.
