Hedwig Village is the only one with its own police department. The Memorial Villages Police Department serves three communities, and the Spring Valley PD serves two. The Villages enjoy their independence and protecting their quiet communities for the noise and distractions of big city life.

The Villages appeal to those seeking a home in a country-like setting. It is especially popular with established families who want to avoid hectic city life. Charming tree-lined streets and country-style estates are the norm in The Villages. The area is seen as somewhat exclusive. The area's bucolic setting is one perk of living in The Villages. You don't have to go far to indulge yourself when it comes to dining, nightlife and shopping. The Memorial district has two malls. The Memorial City Mall features hundreds of stores and big name anchor retailers. Town & Country Village offers a more laid back shopping experience with 75 stores and high-end dining options. For even more options, you are just a short ride from the Uptown-Galleria neighborhood with its many eateries, cafes, clubs and nightspots. It also is home to the fourth largest mall in the nation, Galleria Houston. With 375 retailers and restaurants, it is a top tourist destination.

Upscale is the only way to describe the apartment rental market in The Villages, and the Memorial neighborhood in general. You can find one-bedroom units for about $750 monthly in low-rise or garden-style buildings. But the newer, high rise and luxury buildings have significantly higher rents at about $1,000 to $1,400 for a one bedroom. Single-family homes, condos, townhomes also are available, but the selection is limited. Your travel time will depend on where you work, but most residents of The Villages have a 15-20 minute commute.
