Rent an apartment in Woodlake, Houston TX, and you will live west of downtown Houston. The area has been designated as the Mid-West Super Neighborhood by the city of Houston. Super neighborhoods enable the residents, organizations, businesses and institutions of an area work together for a community's interests.
Before the 1950s, the Westchase-Woodlake area was mostly rural, with unpaved roads. Commercial development began along Westheimer Road, soon followed by housing. Development began in Woodlake in 1969. The neighborhood today is considered upper middle class. It has many single-family residential subdivisions, but also includes a mix of apartment buildings, condos and townhomes. Woodlake is generally considered to be part of the Westchase district, but also is close to the Uptown and Galleria neighborhoods.
Woodlake Lifestyle and Entertainment
Woodlake is a quiet respite from the hub-bub of city life. Picturesque family-friendly neighborhoods dominate the community. Yet, as part of the Westchase district, there's always something to do. The area features cafes, restaurants and taverns. Nearby, the Galleria-Uptown district offer the world-class shopping experience of the Galleria Houston. This upscale mall boasts 375 stores, restaurants and an ice rink. It is anchored by Dillard's, Neiman-Marcus, Nordtrom, Macy's and Saks Fifth Avenue.
Not surprisingly, Woodlake has a number of outdoor spaces for sports, picnics and just a day in the park. These include Anderson, Tanglewood, Briarbend, Briarmeadow and Tanglewilde parks.
The Woodlake Rental Market
The rental market in Woodlake includes a appealing variety of apartment buildings, as well as some condos, townhomes and single-family homes. Monthly rents are affordable with one-bedroom apartments starting at about $600 a month. Two bedroom units go for about $880 and up. Many of the buildings are garden-style, or low-rise with a range of amenities. Woodlake is popular with families with children of all ages, as well as with professionals.
