Living in Katy

Initially known for its rice farming reputation, Katy was officially incorporated as a municipality in 1945. Today, this quaint city’s population surpasses 14,000, and residents living here enjoy the relaxed pace of life, convenient access to Houston, and accessibility to natural and historical attractions.

Nature lovers renting apartments here will appreciate this city’s abundance of outdoor recreation areas. Have a picnic with the family at Katy City Park, and bring your little ones to Katy’s Play Station, which is also renowned as the state’s largest playground of its kind for deaf and impaired children.

If you have a furry friend, bring him over to the city’s dog park, which contains over 14 acres of open space that will be any pet pooch’s paradise. The city is also environmentally progressive, with a movement called “Keep Katy Beautiful” that educates citizens about recycling and landscaping with the aim of promoting and instilling the values of maintaining a clean, litter free community.

For history buffs looking to become more knowledgeable about their new city’s roots, visit the Katy Heritage Museum, which features vintage farming equipment and artifacts from Katy’s agricultural and pioneering history. Also be sure to check out Katy Veterans Memorial Museum, which covers all military conflicts with American involvement, beginning with the American Revolution and leading to present day.

Residents will also want to visit the beautifully restored Katy Heritage Park Historical Homes, which feature extensive information about the area and host community concerts, vintage baseball games, and tours for tourists.

Katy is primarily a car dependent city, as the public transportation is not the most accessible within direct city limits. However, there are options available. The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County operates just east of Katy. The Greyhound bus also passes through the city.
