Overview of League City

Looking to live in one of the best cities in America? Look no further than League City apartments for rent. This seaside city is close enough to commute to Houston, but the 83,999 people who call it home have plenty of things to occupy them.

Incorporated in 1962, League City, Texas, has come a long way in its short history. Named one of the 100 Best Small Cities in America by CNN Money Magazine in 2006, this metropolis is close to Galveston Bay, the Gulf of Mexico and NASA Johnson Space Center.

Whether looking for a warm-weather home near the water or a spot to raise a family, League City may be the perfect place.

Living in League City, TX

League City may have only been incorporated in 1962, but the history of the area dates back to the early 1800s, when Father Miguel Muldoon was sent to Texas from Mexico to set up missions for the Native Americans there. After he returned to Mexico, J.C. League, an entrepreneur from nearby Galveston, purchased the land, bringing Longhorn cattle and all the makings of a ranch.

The city continued to grow throughout the 19th century, and many of the original buildings and landmarks have been preserved or restored for visitors and residents alike.

Although the city's rich history is intriguing, there is also a plethora of other activities in the area, given its location on the Gulf of Mexico. Boating, fishing and birding are popular in the area, but golf, shopping and dining are also popular activities for residents and visitors alike. League City boasts the third largest pleasure boat anchorage in the U.S.

Parents can feel good about sending their children to the award-winning Clear Creek Independent School District, and all residents can enjoy a range of activities in the city all year round, ranging from music festivals to movies in the park.

League City Work and Study

League City has been named one of the top 10 smartest cities in Texas, and ranked 99 among the top 100 smartest cities in the U.S., meaning those who are looking for League City rentals will join a competitive workforce. Just over 40 percent of residents have a bachelor's degree or higher and 94.1 percent have at least a high school degree.

The Clear Creek Independent School District has more than 39,000 students who attend 26 elementary, 10 intermediate and 7 high schools. The district has earned a Recognized rating by the Texas Education Agency.

Management, business, science and arts occupations make up the greatest percentage of those employed in League City, with 49.5 percent employed in these industries between 2006 and 2010. Retail trade is the top industry, followed by construction, professional, scientific and tech services and healthcare.
