Rent an apartment on the Far West Side of San Antonio, TX, and you will be in one of the fastest growing areas of the city. As a newer subdivision, most of the homes and multi-family residential buildings in this neighborhood are newer and feature modern amenities. Middle-class families and first-time home buyers are particularly attracted to the Far West Side. But, the area is most popular with military personnel and their families because of its close proximity to Lackland Air Force Base.
The major roads serving the Far West Side include Loop 1604, Loop 410, State Highway 151 and U.S. Highway 90. Major employers have migrated into the area following the housing boom, offering jobs for local residents.
Far West Side Lifestyle and Entertainment
Although distant from San Antonio's center, the Far West Side is far from lacking in conveniences, eateries and entertainment for locals. As the area grew, businesses have moved in, offering area residents a nice selection of restaurants, retailers, coffee shops and pubs. These include large national chains as well as locally owned one of kind eateries and boutiques.
For out of the ordinary fun, families only have to go as far as nearby Sea World Texas, which even offers a discount for military families. In addition to the animal encounters, the park also offers some thrills with its roller coasters and other rides.
Or if you prefer baseball, you can enjoy the San Antonio Missions minor league team at Nelson W. Wolff Stadium. The 9,500-seat stadium has luxury boxes and picnic areas. The team is affiliated with the San Diego Padres. It's so close to Lackland AFB, fans can see planes flying in to land there behind the outfield wall. The team hosts regular "Military Nights."
The Far West Side Rental Market
The Far West Side rental market has many choices for apartment living. Apartment complexes in this neighborhood are mainly low-rise and garden-style. Newer buildings are common and they feature many amenities from stainless steel appliances to on-site dog parks. One-bedroom apartments typically rent for $800 to $900, although some lower priced units are available. Larger, luxury-type apartments are offered as well for up to $1,400 a month or more. Rent on two-bedroom apartments start at about $1,000 monthly and go up from there depending on amenities. The community is conveniently close to Lackland Air Force Base, making this area particularly popular with military families.
Far West Side Resources
Only a portion of the Far West Side neighborhood is within San Antonio's city limits. Residents who are within San Antonio may be part of City Council Districts 4 or 6, depending on where they live.
