Living in South Jordan, UT

South Jordan was first settled in 1859 by Alexander and Catherine Lince Beckstead. The couple built their home as an agricultural farm, which began attracting many farmers and ranchers into the area. A sleepy farming region until about 1950, South Jordan's population has boomed in recent years.

Today, South Jordan continues to embody some of the region's distinctive values. The Jordan River Temple, a Latter-day Saints temple that overlooks the region's many protected green spaces, serves as a reminder of the region's religious roots. Though the Salt Lake City region has diversified and expanded in recent years, local officials remain committed to environmental preservation. Numerous groups have worked hard to encourage the South Jordan Riverway Wildlife Enhancement project, and one of the town's most talked about neighborhoods - the Daybreak community - is a sustainability-oriented New Urbanist development.
