The first settlers to the area were the Marius Ensign, Thomas Butterfield, and Samuel Egbert families, followed soon by many more.

By 1872, a major multi-community effort was launched that built canals throughout the valley to provide water to allow the farming industry to prosper. The sugar beet history and production of Utah was centered in West Jordan because a large sugar factory was built.

When West Jordan was officially incorporated in 1941, its population was less than 2,000 people. Throughout the 1960s, the community grew quickly and was noted as one of the fastest-growing small communities in the United States.

Due to the close proximity to Salt Lake City, many residents travel there for work and post-secondary education. Students living in West Jordan apartments often attend school at Salt Lake Community College, Western Governors University, Westminster College or Utah Valley University. 

In Salt Lake County, some of the largest employers include Intermountain Healthcare, the state of Utah, Brigham Young University, Hill Air Force Base and Convergys. Employees at the Hill Air Force Base take part in many operational and support missions with the Ogden Air Logistics Complex and serve as the host organization.

The Mountain View Golf Course is one of the most beautiful courses in the area. Featuring views of the Wasatch Mountains from all over the course, Mountain View is a great place to spend an afternoon for any skill level. The 18-hole course has spacious fairways and greens, as well as a plentiful pro-shop and convenient cafe area.

There are also many historical landmarks all over West Jordan that make for a great family outing. The Bingham Canyon Mine and American West Heritage Centre are located just a short drive away.
