Located in Salt Lake County, West Jordan is a rapidly growing community near Salt Lake City. The quaint community sits on the southwest end of the Valley near the Jordan River. The city spans to the foothills of the Oquirrh Mountains to the west and the Wasatch Mountains to the east. West Jordan was one of the earliest settlements in Utah after Salt Lake City was founded. The community’s history began in 1849 when settlers began traveling to the Salt Lake Valley. The original unofficial area of West Jordan spanned most of the valley on the west side of the Jordan River. The first settlers to the area were the Marius Ensign, Thomas Butterfield, and Samuel Egbert families, followed soon by many more.
By 1872, a major multi-community effort was launched that built canals throughout the valley to provide water to allow the farming industry to prosper. The sugar beet history and production of Utah was centered in West Jordan because a large sugar factory was built.
When West Jordan was officially incorporated in 1941, its population was less than 2,000 people. Throughout the 1960s, the community grew quickly and was noted as one of the fastest-growing small communities in the United States.

There are also many historical landmarks all over West Jordan that make for a great family outing. The Bingham Canyon Mine and American West Heritage Centre are located just a short drive away.
