Property Details

JOBBERS OVERALL APARTMENTS is located on Kemper Street in Lynchburg, Virginia. This property consists of two buildings, one of which is a historical building and the other being new construction. The historical building located at 1423 Kemper Street was originally a garment factory and made Blue Buckle Coveralls. In 1919 Jobbers Overall Company built the Martha Washington Dormitory adjacent to the factory to house its transient employees. In 1921 Jobbers went bankrupt and both properties were sold, at which time the dormitory was converted to a garment factory as well.

Keeping the historical features intact, this building was converted to 20 loft style units with two and three bedrooms. The flooring was preserved and is a variation of concrete and hardwood which were refinished and absolutely beautiful. Each unit is unique as the design was laid out to accommodate the historical pillars, windows and other natural features of this beautiful old building.

The second building which is new construction is located at 1503 Kemper Street. The new building has 24 units consisting of two and three bedroom units. Both buildings offer all the most modern conveniences and each unit meets ADA accessible requirements.

Lynchburg was named for its founding father, John Lynch, who at age 17 started a ferry service across the James River in 1757. Mr. Lynch was responsible for the first bridge across the James River in 1812 which eventually closed the ferry. In October 1786 the Virginia General Assembly granted John Lynch a charter for a town which was 45 acres of his own land. Lynchburg was incorporated into a town in 1805 and as a city in 1852. Lynchburg is rich in historical architecture and is the home of Randolph College and Liberty University. Currently downtown Lynchburg is being revitalized with shops, clubs and rehabilitation of historical buildings into luxury loft apartments.
