Overview of Midlothian

Midlothian, VA, is a bustling suburb located several miles west of Richmond, Virginia. In 2011, CNBC declared the community one of the top 10 “Perfect Suburbs” in the U.S. Its quaint charm and close proximity to the state capital make Midlothian an ideal location for single apartment renters and families looking for a lifetime home.

Living in Midlothian

Midlothian was founded more than 300 years ago. In the past, the area was a coal mining village. During that time, French Huguenots developed several mines. Later, in the 1850s, the tiny village became known as Midlothian.

Currently, throughout the neighborhood, there are remnants of old taverns, houses and mines. On Old Buckingham Road, a few buildings are stilling standing such as the Smith House and Haley Cole’s Free School.

Robious Landing Park is a 100-acre outdoor space located near the James River on the southern bank. At this site, you can play horseshoes or volleyball. Fishing is also possible at this park. If you have small kids, they will have a blast at the playground. For teens, wakeboarding, swimming, kayaking and canoeing are highly recommended.

Crump Play Playground & Meadow Farm Museum is another great site for children. In the toddler area, there are several miniature houses and apparatuses that can be climbed. For older kids, there are monkey bars and slides.

Locals use the GRTC Bus Rapid Transit Line to travel to stores and restaurants. Most of the taxi services in Midlothian are managed by small business owners. The local railroad station takes passengers from Midlothian to New York, Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia.
