Living in Staunton, VA
Staunton has managed to maintain its original architecture while other Virginia towns have not because it was spared from destruction in the Civil War. The first homestead in the town was built in 1732 by a Scotch-Irish immigrant, and many of the 18th and early 19th century homes are still intact today. More pieces of Staunton's history are visible around town, including Victorian, Greek Revival and Federal style homes and buildings from the "boom" years when Staunton became a transportation hub with the arrival of the Virginia Central Railroad. The city offers five historic districts.
Staunton has a population of approximately 23,700 and appeals to residents thanks to its convenient location at the crossroads of Interstates 81 and 64. The city offers a range of healthcare, education and cultural amenities. Residents work for many companies inside of the city or travel to nearby Charlottesville and Harrisonburg for their jobs.
Staunton Attractions and Special Events
Staunton residents can travel back in time daily thanks to the many historic attractions in the city. Residents attend shows at the Blackfriars Playhouse, one of the only re-creations of Shakespeare's legendary indoor theatre, and learn about President Woodrow Wilson at his museum and research library. During the summer, residents and visitors alike love the annual Summer Brews and Blues Festival or the Hot Glass Festival.
When people want to get away for a day, Staunton apartments for rent make it easy to travel to Richmond and Washington, D.C., or to the neighboring cities of Charlottesville and Harrisonburg.
