Overview of District Heights

One of the most sought-after communities in metro Washington, D.C., the city of District Heights has become a popular home for many Maryland residents in the tri-state area. With more than 5,800 residents, according to the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau, District Heights has everything you could want from a small town, but still has all of the amenities of a big city like D.C. less than 10 miles away. Because residents here can have both, many commuters have found their home in fantastic District Heights apartments for rent. With its friendly atmosphere and new commitment to green technology, District Heights is the perfect place for eco-conscious families.

Living in District Heights, MD

The history of District Heights dates back to the days of John Smith, when he first traversed the woodland areas of what would later be called Prince George's County. However, the area was largely a vast, agricultural tract of land for centuries until 1925 when acres of land were purchased and formed into the District Heights Company as part of a land development project. Eventually the plan worked and the city was incorporated in 1936. Although it took several decades, the city eventually grew into the perfect bedroom community for many commuters to the D.C. area. Today, the city remains small but maintains a sense of pride in its past with a keen eye for the future as the area continues to expand and grow.
