Since the community’s incorporation in 1994, the population and amenities have vastly grown. According to statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau, about 10,600 people live in Newcastle today.

Newcastle apartments for rent are near many natural areas like Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park and the city’s expansive park system. Residents have access to many trails and outdoor recreation, making it a perfect location for active individuals.

Living in Newcastle, WA

In the late 1800s, Newcastle was at the center of the expansion of the rail, coal and timber industries in the Pacific Northwest. The area was especially known for its rich history as a coal production town and its role in the expansion of Seattle that transformed the city into a major port. An estimated 75 to 100 tons of coal was produced each day in Newcastle in 1872. However, by 1963 the mine closed, but its legacy is still present today in names like Coal Creek Parkway and China Creek Golf Course.

Newcastle Attractions and Special Events

Every September, the community celebrates Newcastle Days. The family-friendly event features live music, dance performances, food vendors, a wine and beer garden, pony rides and inflatable toys for kids. The event hosts roughly 2,000 attendees each day in Lake Boren Park. People living in Newcastle apartments and homes create a close-knit community at the event, which is why it has been a mainstay for years.

The city’s two championship golf courses are a major attraction for many. The beautiful courses span 350 mountaintop acres and were both designed by Robert E. Cupp and Masters champion Fred Couples. Both courses boast picturesque views of the Puget Sound area and the Seattle skyline.
