Overview of SeaTac

SeaTac, a moderately sized city in Washington known by its unofficial motto of "Not Quite Seattle, Not Quite Tacoma," has garnered a positive reputation as a comfortable place to live. Conveniently located within driving distance of both Seattle and Tacoma, many locals prefer to rent in the smaller city and commute to work in one of those larger cities. The Puget Sound region is gorgeous, and those who want to save money on a rental home can find more affordable homes here.

Living in SeaTac

Several small communities and neighborhoods sit in the area now known as SeaTac, including Riverton Heights and Bow Lake. In 1989, the residents of those communities voted to establish one set identity and passed a resolution to incorporate into the city. SeaTac became official the following year.

Despite being a small area with just 10 square miles of space, the city has a large population of around 22,000 residents. It has a large public school district that provides students with access to small class sizes and a wide range of afterschool activities.

One of the top attractions in the city is the Silver Dollar Casino. Visitors come from all across the state to try their hand at poker, blackjack or one of other casino games. The casino also boasts some special events and has a shuttle bus.

Apartment renters residing here who are willing to make a short drive won't want to miss the Space Needle. Located just 23 miles from downtown SeaTac, the observation deck provides amazing views of downtown Seattle.

If you love spending time outdoors, you won't want to miss the ample parks located in the city. Valley Ridge Park boasts basketball courts, a hockey rink, baseball and softball fields, and a skating area while Des Moines Creek Trail Park is home to miles of trails for hikers and bikers. Other parks in SeaTac have community centers, picnic tables and playgrounds for kids. These parks also offer activities and programs year-round for residents of all ages, including arts and crafts and yoga.

With so many people arriving in the area via the airport, the city decided that it needed an active public transportation system. The King County Metro Transit now provides residents and visitors with access to many of the city's top destinations and locations. Those buses make regular stops all across SeaTac. Residents can also use the light rail or the commuter train to reach the airport and other stops. Many local residents prefer driving their own vehicles, though.

Apartments in SeaTac-Study

Though there are no colleges located within the city itself, you can easily find a neighborhood or an apartment for rent that you love and commute to a nearby school. Highline College in nearby Des Moines is just 4 miles from the city while the International Academy of Design & Technology is 2 miles away. You may also find the courses you want to take at Renton Technical College, which is 6 miles from the heart of the city.

Apartments in SeaTac-Work

There are ample opportunities for employment in the Seattle-Tacoma region. The top employers in the area include Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines, and more than 60 of the businesses located within the city made the Fortune list of top 500 companies in the country. The city itself is also one of the region's top employers, so you may want to look for a place to rent in a neighborhood near downtown to make your commute easier.
