Overview of Marinette
Marinette, WI is located directly on the border of Wisconsin and Michigan's upper peninsula. Situated on beautiful Green Bay, this relatively isolated small town boasts approximately 10,000 residents and is home to a variety of charming amenities. The city is the seat of Marinette County and is located about 50 miles north of the city of Green Bay.
Marinette's original inhabitants were Native Americans from the Algonquin tribe. The first European settler was Stanislaus Chappu, a French-Canadian fur trader. Many fur traders began arriving in Marinette during the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1832, a sawmill was erected in Marinette, bringing additional industry to the area. Throughout the late 1800s, numerous other mills were built. Lumbering continued to grow Marinette's population throughout the years, and the city was finally incorporated in 1887.
