Living in Menasha

Menasha was incorporated as a city in 1874. Mrs. Doty, wife of James Doty, named the settlement "The Island" in the native Winnebago language. Located on the Fox River, the city used water power to develop a wooden ware industry. In later years, the wooden wares companies switched to paper manufacturing.

The modern city has a population of 17,440, according to the 2010 census. The neighborhoods boast a diverse and friendly populace. With plenty of parks and trails, you can enjoy the beauty of the area. Part of the Friendship State Trail and Trestle Bridge runs through the community. You can hike the trail and take time to visit Jefferson Park along the way. The park is well equipped with picnic areas, ball fields, a public pool and boat slips.

In addition to outdoor activities, the city offers other recreational and cultural opportunities. Individuals and families will enjoy spending time seeing the latest exhibits and programs at the Barlow Planetarium and the Weis Earth Science Museum, both located at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley campus. All these locations are easily accessible by car. The city also has fixed bus routes throughout Menasha to get from one place to another. If you use public transportation, you can rent an apartment located on or near bus routes.
