Overview of River Falls
Conveniently located 30 miles from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area along the Wisconsin/Minnesota border, River Falls is one of Wisconsin's fastest-growing cities. Home to miles of scenic beauty due to its close location to Lake St. Croix and the Kinnickinnic River, many Wisconsin residents love living here because of the tremendous opportunities for outdoor recreation. The first European settler in the area was Joel Foster, who came into River Falls as early as 1848. Because of the many waterways in the area, River Falls quickly became established as a milling city. After the milling industry died in the 19th century, the area became a manufacturing hub, producing everything from patent medicines to bricks. Education has always been a major draw to the city as well, especially since The University of Wisconsin, River Falls, and Chippewa Valley Technical College are located here. According to 2010 data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the city is home to 15,000 residents. A vibrant city, the median resident age in River Falls is just older than 24, according to City-Data, making it a very young city that has promise for the future.
River Falls Attractions and Special Events
River Falls hosts and number of community events throughout the year. Among some of them are the Town and Country Day and Old Fashioned Bargain Days; however, the biggest is River Falls Days, an event that features sidewalk sales, a dance and royalty coronation. This festival has been a favorite in the community since 1974.
