Anchorage, Alaska, is located in the south-central region of the state. It is one of the northernmost cities in the United States and has a population of approximately 295,500. The area is a mix of metropolitan offerings and wild adventures. People looking for Anchorage apartments for rent will find a city that invites residents and visitors alike to "discover traditions as diverse as the Alaska landscape."
Anchorage's history dates back 10,000 years. It was first discovered by Russian sailors in 1741, and was later explored by British and American explorers. The area became popular in 1887, after the discovery of gold. By 1915, the area had attracted hundreds of goldseekers and developers.
Anchorage prides itself in being a livable city in a spectacular setting. The city's breathtaking backdrop is a tourist attraction, but the area also offers lots of career choices for its residents. Popular industries include construction, public administration and accommodation and food services. The city has three hospitals and several institutions of higher education.
Anchorage is a wonderful town for individuals and families alike. It has nearly 11,000 acres of municipal parkland, which include playgrounds, trails, athletic fields and pools. Children attend a school system that is very involved in the success of its students, and has the goal of achieving 90 percent attendance by 2020.
Residents who live in Anchorage rentals get to experience the year-round vacation destination firsthand. They enjoy exploring glaciers, fishing for king salmon and hiking mountains. But, the city isn't all outdoor activities. It's also very urban, and offers fabulous seafood, several cultural centers and upscale hotels and bed and breakfasts. Residents also connect with the town's heritage at many history museums focused on Alaska Natives.
Anchorage is a three-hour flight from Seattle, and residents can travel to and from the city from one its several airports.
