The Camelback East Village, also referred to as East Phoenix, is located within close proximity of some of Phoenix's best neighborhoods and hotspots. Not only will you be a stone's throw from Biltmore, Old Town, and Downtown Phoenix; Paradise Valley and Scottsdale are also adjacent to Camelback East. So, essentially, some of the best parts of Phoenix are at your fingertips. But let's not overlook Camelback East itself! Like other Phoenix villages, this region covers a lot of ground, and the neighborhoods within offer very different atmospheres. Some parts are upscale and some are older, it's just a matter of finding the right fit for you! Read on to learn more about where you might want to live in Camelback East village.
This vast area is characterized by its central location, thriving commercial areas, and housing options that fit most any budget. There are two main commercial "cores" that have a high concentration of businesses and rental properties. The pricier of the two is near 24th Street and Camelback Road and the less expensive area is to the south at 44th street and Van Buren Ave. Camelback East apartments are spread throughout the entirety of the neighborhood, but they are more highly concentrated in the two core areas.
The area near 24th Street and Camelback Road is larger and more developed due to the attention of wealthier residents. It contains the "Camelback Corridor," which is home to many mid-rise offices and condos. Apartments in this area tend to be newly constructed and luxurious, with one-bedrooms starting around $600 a month. The other core at 44th street and Van Buren Ave is a bit older and has a lot more options for affordable Camelback East apartments. One-bedroom apartments in this area start at about $450 a month, and while there are some fancier options here as well, the tendency is for the apartments to be a bit older and a lot cheaper.
There are about 1,400 restaurants, bars, and coffee shops in Camelback East, and the highest concentration of those shops resides on Camelback Road. 20th street is where the Town & Country Shopping Center begins, which holds some well-known food options like Chili's as well as some necessity shops like Trader Joe's grocery store. But if you're really looking to spend some money, the Biltmore Fashion Park begins at 24th and has many high-end stores like Saks Fifth Avenue as well as many delicious eateries.
And we suppose we can't mention Camelback East without mentioning its namesake--Camelback Mountain. This huge red rock landmark is in the general shape of a camel's silhouette (minus the legs, obviously), and is not for the inexperience hiker. The trails are notorious for being difficult, and if you combine that with the Phoenix heat a trip up the mountain can really knock you out. It's absolutely worth doing if you have partners and plenty of water, but be sure to prepare in advance!
You and your four-legged friends will have no trouble finding the perfect home in this village. Most apartments in Camelback East Phoenix allow both dogs and cats, and most even have some grassy patches (you know what those are for...we don't need to explain that one).
There are also several animal hospitals, pet stores, and groomers in the area. Overall, having Phoenix is a pet-friendly city. The main thing is making sure that you can keep them cool in that summer heat!
There is no living in Phoenix without a car. Although there are some forms of public transit, they are very rarely a convenient way to get from point A to point B. Hence, it's important to know what highways run through your neighborhood in order to see what your commute will be like.
Three major highways serve Camelback East. Route 51 runs north from Interstate 10 and is the most convenient way to go to and from the northern suburbs. State Route 202, also known as the Red Mountain Freeway, runs east to west along the southern part of Camelback East. And as was mentioned earlier, I-10 serves this neighborhood and runs east to west. This is the main artery running through Phoenix and the state of Arizona in general.
There are five school districts represented in the Camelback East village, including 16 elementary schools and two high schools. Having so many elementary options is beneficial to students because it keeps class sizes small, and it must benefit the students in the long run because both high schools are known for testing highly.
