Best Miami Neighborhoods for Artists

While it’s perhaps most well-known for the iconic Art Deco architecture and infamous party scene of South Beach, Miami is filled with a diverse array of people and cultures. The city’s art scene is on the rise and artists from around the country looking to harness that unique Miami flavor are flocking to this Florida paradise and renting Miami apartments.

While artists are sure to find inspiration just about anywhere in this coastal metropolis, these are the best Miami neighborhoods for artists:

Wynwood

As the home of Art Basel Miami, Wynwood is at the center of the city’s blossoming art scene. Once a deserted industrial area, Wynwood has been reborn as Miami’s artistic hub. The place is packed with young artists and graphic designers–largely drawn by inexpensive rent–and has more than 70 galleries, collections and museums in the neighborhood.

Some describe Wynwood as an outdoor art museum due to the nearly ubiquitous presence of vibrant street art. During the annual Art Basel art fair, pop-up parties and galleries dot the area. Wynwood is still undergoing a renaissance, so it’s the ideal place for artists who want to be where the action is to rent a Miami apartment.

Design District

Located just north of Wynwood, Miami’s Design District is a hub of creativity. It’s filled with hundreds of art galleries, showrooms and antique dealers. With a vibe similar to New York City’s SoHo, the Design District is a popular hangout for artists of all varieties, including architects and interior designers.

For the artist who also happens to be a foodie, having a Miami apartment in the Design District means being perfectly situated for easy access to the area’s many popular restaurants and bars, including eateries from culinary geniuses like Michael Schwartz.

Coconut Grove

Coconut Grove is the oldest continuously inhabited neighborhood in Miami, and its bohemian vibe makes it a big draw for artists. The area is extremely walkable and great for people-watching; and shuns chains in favor of independent boutiques, local cafes and quaint restaurants.

This Miami neighborhood is also home to the Coconut Grove Arts Festival, which is Florida’s most successful arts festival and attracts more than 100,000 people every year. Artists of the musical variety will also enjoy the neighborhood’s popular jazz festival.
