When my family and I rented our home, I sometimes became frustrated about not being able to change certain things, and not having the freedom to undertake home projects to alter the aesthetics.

Instead of focusing on large-scale projects, I found a creative outlet by focusing on smaller projects like crafts and holiday decorating instead. With Halloween right around the corner, I thought it would be fun to share some project inspiration to help transform your home for the occasion.

These are easy, inexpensive Halloween craft ideas that anyone can make. Hopefully some of these ideas will inspire you to add some festive flair to your home this month!

Decorate Dollar Store Pumpkins

One cute (and inexpensive) idea is to gather some dollar store pumpkins and put your own personal creative spin on them by dressing them up and embellishing them however you choose. There are lots of ideas for how to do this at Chaotically Creative.

DIY Halloween Lanterns

With just a few basic craft supplies (mason jars, Mod Podge, tissue paper, card stock and a foam brush), you can easily make these cute Halloween Lanterns! Just add an LED tea light and you’ll have an adorable accent for your porch, patio or balcony at night, or you could even place them on your windowsill so people passing by can get a glimpse of them through the window.

Upcycle Light Bulbs

I love any chance to repurpose something, and this is such a cute way to do that. Turn your old burned out light bulbs into Jack-O-Lanterns like these from Dukes and Duchesses.

Halloween Wreath

Some of my favorite crafts to make are wreaths for every season or occasion. Adorn your front door with an eerie homemade Halloween wreath like this one from DIY Inspired.

Cheesecloth Ghost

Spooky-Cheesecloth-GhostAnother creative, spooky idea is to make your own cheesecloth ghost like this one from Yesterday on Tuesday. It’s easier than you think! Plus, it’s just the right balance of adorable and creepy.

No-Carve Pumpkins

Duck-tape-craft-make-a-Halloween-pumpkinOne staple at Halloween is, of course, pumpkins! There are so many fun ways to DIY your own and add a personal touch to ensure that your pumpkins are unique. As an alternative to carving (which is messy anyway), you could use decorative tape and googly-eyes for an attention-grabbing look like this one from Mod Podge Rocks.

You could also paint your pumpkins, add vinyl designs or embellishments, or stencil a pattern onto them. Instead of using real pumpkins, you could even substitute with foam pumpkins instead which could be used year after year, like these from Mom 4 Real.

Regardless of what type of project you choose, it’s fun to get creative and make your own seasonal decor. Homemade decor is always so much more unique and personal. Plus, you can save lots of money by making things yourself!

Halloween is such a fun time of year to be creative. A few other ideas for homemade Halloween decor are: making your own Halloween banner or bunting; spooky wall art; garland; Halloween-inspired centerpieces or tablescapes, embellished candy dishes, or eerie window decor.
