Each year, we await the release of the color that will define the following year — like the 2019 Pantone Color ‘Coral’ and the 2020 Pantone Color ‘Classic Blue.’
Pantone released its 2022 Pantone Color of the Year and it’s as unique as it gets. PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri is the first time Pantone has created a color from scratch versus picking from existing palettes. And it doesn’t disappoint.
The company describes the periwinkle hue color as calming with some energy. “Displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression,” says the Pantone Color Institute.
Bring that hint of whimsy to your apartment and decorate with the Very Peri hue. Here are a few decorating ideas for you.
1. Bring in an upholstered chair
Often, apartments are one extensive beige palette and your landlord may not let you do much about that. Not to worry, though. This is easily fixed with a pop of color in Very Peri in the form of an upholstered statement chair. Make a small reading nook with a comfy statement chair and a small side table.
2. Accent wall in your office
Painting a whole room is a lot, but choosing one wall can take only a few hours and bring just enough color to your home office. When working from home, an accent wall can add interest to your Zoom call and get you excited to tackle your to-do list.
Check with your lease before painting first, but a quick visit to the home improvement store for a Pantone color of the year color match, a few brushes and you’re in business.
3. Drape a blanket on the couch
This lavender hue isn’t for everybody, but hear us out! If you prefer neutral tones like gray couches and light wood texture, a plush blanket in a Veri Peri hue draped over a neutral-colored couch can do the trick.
There’s no need to drown your apartment in the Pantone color of the year. You can just add a vase here and a blanket there to bring it into your décor.
4. Add a rug to your living room
Rug retailers have it all these days — from washable to intricate patterns. If you’re looking for a new one to add to your bedroom or living room, grab one with a bit of periwinkle mixed in it. You don’t need a statement piece but can undoubtedly use cool colors like Very Peri to bring a calming vibe to your apartment.
5. Add towels to your bathroom
Depending on your lease, you probably can’t change much in your bathroom. But your towels can bring a little brightness into the space. Add a few towels in Very Peri mixed in with your white ones. Want to go one step further? Ask your landlord if you can change the bathroom hardware on your dime, so your new towels truly shine.
6. Pick a new rent-friendly wallpaper
Gone are the days of your grandma’s yellowing wallpaper peeling off the wall. These days, wallpaper companies carry modern patterns and textures and even rent-friendly choices.
Pick a stripped periwinkle wallpaper for your office or bedroom. Or, maybe you’re more of a textured person and one solid color will do. The choices are endless to put your personality back into your apartment.
7. Planters by your window
The easiest way to add bright colors to your apartment is through ceramics and planters. Planters bring joy to both your décor and your plants. Pick up a few different planters featuring the 2022 Pantone color of the year and include stripes, polka dots and solids.
Pro-tip: As you buy new plants, keep them in their nursery pots so you can switch their planters whenever you want.
8. Artwork with Very Peri accents
Society6, Wayfair, Etsy and other e-commerce retailers offer tons of affordable artwork. Take an afternoon to peruse Very Peri accents. It’s a great way to add color to your décor.
Don’t see anything you like? Make sure to check your photo albums. You may have periwinkle accents in your travel photos and you can easily blow them up for your living room.
9. Pick up a bouquet of lavender
While not an exact match to the Pantone color of the year, it’s an easy way to introduce a similar hue temporarily into your home. Like Very Peri, lavender brings calm into your home and adds a vibrant violet hue to your decor. Add the bouquet to a neutral color vase and place it on your dining room table.
10. Repaint that old dresser
You scored your dresser at your favorite vintage store years ago, but lately, it’s looking rough. Bring it back to life with a bit of DIY and Pantone’s color of the year. It’s not too hard to learn how to paint furniture. If you don’t feel like sanding it, use chalk paint and match it to Very Peri.
Feeling extra fancy? Pick up some new gold hardware to shine against the new paint job.
Bring Very Peri into your life
The new Pantone color of the year brings a playful, energetic vibe to the décor while still being calming and soothing within spaces. Use Very Peri as a pop color in your apartment space or with natural textures like bamboo to soften them up.
Think outside the box for this one: You can buy kitchen utensils, a shower curtain or even a new bouquet to bring the color to life. In the end, have fun with it and get inspired by the future of color.
