Known as the "Heart of the San Ramon Valley," the charming, small town atmosphere of Danville is what makes this town a perfect place to live, work, and play. Because of its outstanding quality of life and close proximity to the Bay Area - just 30 miles east - it makes sense that many people are snatching up some great Danville apartments for rent. With an increase in population over the years, the current tally of residents is more than 42,000, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, making it a fantastic small town close to everything San Francisco has to offer.
Danville was originally part of the San Jose Mission, but later gained notoriety on its own after many Americans were drawn to the area because of the California Gold Rush. After Daniel and Andrew Inman bought 400 acres here in the 1850s, they decided to name the town after Danville, KY out of respect for Andrew's mother-in-law who was from there. For many years, the town was largely a rural area that grew fruits, walnuts, and almonds, and raised cattle and sheep.
Despite the Spanish flu epidemic, two World Wars and the Great Depression, Danville flourished into a special and beautiful community. Many immigrants settled in the area, creating a diverse community that continually worked to improve the town. After more than 130 years, the town is still growing and developing into a true gem in the San Ramon Valley.
The quaint and historic downtown area is home to some of the finest shops in the East Bay area, and is also home to a variety of upscale eateries and family-friendly dining options. However, the true beauty of the city can be found in the miles and miles of trails available to runners, hikers, and bikers. Regional thoroughfares like Iron Horse trail are some of the best ways to see the scenic beauty of the valleys and lush landscape of the town.
