Located in Solano County, California, just 23 miles north of Sacramento, Dixon is known for its rich history. According to the census, this city is home to approximately 18,000 people and is a perfect size for just about anyone.
Dixon apartments for rent are ideal for people who are looking to have a small-town feel to their lifestyle while still being within close distance to a larger metropolitan area. Because it has been known as a commercial and transportation hub for over a century, to this day it still remains one of the largest growing business communities in the region.
In the mid-1800s, Thomas Dickson arrived to the area and settled with his wife and five children. Nearly a decade after his settlement, Dickson decided to donate 10 acres of land that would serve as a depot and townsite on the California Pacific Railroad. In turn, the railroad superintendent designated the town's station to be named "Dickson." However, the first shipment of goods arriving by train was addressed to "W.R. Ferguson, Dixon," and residents have been spelling it that way ever since.
Today, Dixon remains a beautiful town that has retained its natural and historical features while still growing into the 21st century.
Despite the fact that it is also home to the largest corn maze in the country, Dixon is close to wonderful attractions such as the Napa and Sonoma wine regions, Lake Tahoe and the northern California coast, which offer unique activities for residents of all ages.
Each quarter, the city of Dixon releases City Connection, a publication that provides visitors and residents details about recreational and community activities to do based on the season. Since the community is a family-friendly atmosphere, there are various types of activities offered each month. Dixon has a variety of beautiful public spaces such as parks, swimming pools and playgrounds, so the community is perfect for just about anyone looking to settle down.
Each year, the Dixon May Fair offers a variety of community and agriculture activities from May 10 through 13. The fair and fairgrounds are the oldest in the state of California. Some of the activities include a demolition derby match, carnival rides and a wine pavillion.
