Previously named West Van Nuys, the community of Lake Balboa is one of the fastest-growing neighborhoods in the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area. Named after the glimmering lake that is adjacent to the city, this charming community has a population of more than 43,000 residents, according to information from City-Data. With its small-town atmosphere near to everything Los Angeles has to offer, it is no surprise that many people are finding excellent Lake Balboa apartments for rent.
Lake Balboa is a relatively new community compared with other neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Many of the homes here reflect the bungalow style that was popular in the 1940s and 1950s. Centrally located in the San Fernando Valley just north of Encino, the city was not officially recognized until late 2007. Before, it was simply referred to as Van Nuys, whose development began in 1911, when the Los Angeles housing boom was in full swing. The neighborhood has spectacular weather year round, with an average of 286 days of sunshine per year.
Lake Balboa's greatest attraction is of course its namesake. The 80-acre water recreation facility remains the centerpiece of the community, with plenty of fishing, boating, jogging, biking, fly fishing, and walking around the stunning cherry blossom trees that hug the banks of the lake.
Another beautiful area is the Japanese garden, a tranquil and authentic Asian garden modeled after the areas owned by Japanese feudal lords in the 18th and 19th centuries. The area is complete with a tea room for visitors to relax in meditative calm.
The city is also home to the WorldFest, a solar-powered Earth Day festival hosted in the area featuring live music, inspirational speakers, environmental and humanitarian non-profits, local food vendors, and kid-friendly activities for the whole family.
