Nestled in the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains and home to more than 53,000 residents, according to 2011 estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau, the waterfront community of Lake Elsinore is one of the fastest growing in California. With its historically refurbished downtown district, perfect Mediterranean climate and plenty of family-friendly outdoor recreation, it is no wonder than many Californians are finding their home in Lake Elsinore apartments for rent.
Like many other cities in Southern California, Lake Elsinore got its start as part of a Mexican land grant. Named Machado Rancho for many decades, the more than 12,800-acre farm was eventually sold to the city's founder, Franklin Heald, and the visions of his dream city began to take place. Lake Elsinore eventually developed as a playground for Southern California's rich and famous during the 1920s due to its many lakeside amenities. After a complete renovation of the city's historical district in 1989, the city saw a rejuvenation. In 2006, the city adopted the logo "Dream Extreme" because of the robust business growth and economic progress that the city has undergone in recent years. According to information from City-Data, the city has seen a remarkable 79 percent growth in population from 2000 to 2010, indicating that Lake Elsinore isn't showing any signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Because of the near-perfect climate that many residents enjoy year round, it's easy to find plenty of fun in the sun here. The town's unique, rugged setting near the mountains and the scenic landscape of Cleveland National Forest nearby for hiking and camping make Lake Elsinore the perfect spot for outdoor enthusiasts. Residents and visitors enjoy boating, fishing, waterskiing and windsurfing all on the city's namesake.
If the great outdoors aren't your thing, there is plenty of family fun downtown in the city's shopping district and Diamond Stadium, home to the Lake Elsinore Storm - the city's Triple A baseball team.
